saints & scholars gateway railing
January 2009: we were successful in our bid to design and supply a set of decorative railings for Armagh City and District Council,as an entrance feature on the junction of Dobbin Street Lane and Friary Road. The project was completed in June 2011.
Drawing inspiration from the Book of Armagh, fabrication began in March 2011, using mild steel, mig welding, cold and hot forming. Our Gas Forge helps achieve fluid forms in heavy guage steel, and a mixture of CNC Laser profiling and freehand Plasma cutting creates components.

Installation:
The sloping site was a challenge, each side of the road had a different radius bend, and the fall changed throughout the length of the railing. With the help of Land Survey Services' accurate survey of the site, we were able to accurately fabricate each railing section to the correct curve and fall.
The railings were Galvanised and Powder Coated by NK Coatings prior to installation.
Armagh City and District Council arranged an "Public Art Mystery Walking Tour", unveiling more artworks throughout the city, involving school children, theArmagh Rhymers, the Mayor of Armagh Coucillor Freda Donnelly and other council staff.
The other artworks included Bronze Angels and Gargoyles around the city, designed and fabricated by Holger Lonze, a Cork based artist, the StarStone at the entrance to the Marketplace Theatre, Celestial sphere and others. You can read about these artworks on Armagh City and District Council's News page.
